The product is a patient monitor to be used in a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) room. The new high Tesla MRI’s have greater resolution but cause interference with electronic devices (including currently used patient monitors). The monitor is useful during standard image acquisition but vital in patients unable to speak, unconscious, or anaesthetized. The intention is to use fiberoptic endoscope technology to conduct a high-resolution color image of the patient safely and unaltered out of the magnetic field. In order to permit the visualization of the patient’s head at various positions inside the MRI chamber, it may be necessary to use multiple optical systems positioned on the inside of the chamber along the length of the MRI chamber. The invention may also be used in NMR or CAT devices.
A wide angle optical system using fiberoptic image conduit which permits the use of a video camera within a high magnetic field associated with MRI machines. The optical system’s objective may be deployed near the centerpoint of the magnetic field. A fiberoptic relay optical system transmits the image out of the magnetic field to a point where the field density is sufficiently low as to permit the operation of electronic devices such as a video camera
